What is CNC Turning?
CNC turning is a subtractive machining process used to shape solid metal stock into precision components for larger assemblies and equipment. In this process, a piece of metal is secured in a chuck and rotated at high speed while a stationary cutting tool removes material to create the desired shape.
At Skillcraft, the cutting path is precisely controlled by a custom program developed in-house to meet each part’s exact specifications. Multiple cutting tools are positioned in a turret, allowing for efficient and accurate machining of complex geometries.
Unlike waterjet, plasma, or laser cutting, where the tool moves across a stationary workpiece, CNC turning rotates the workpiece while the cutting tool stays fixed, delivering excellent control and surface finish on round or cylindrical parts.
